We have been visiting a lot of farms for the upcoming harvest season and educating the farmers. We had a lot of meetings. I want to introduce you one of the regions called Peña Bermeja and our producer Benancio.

Peña Bermeja is a community located at the footills of Sierra Madre de Chiapas, near Guatemala. With 120 hectares of coffee farms at an altitude of 950-1400 meters, Peña Bermeja provides a beautiful panoramic view of the Mexican and Guatemalan border. The community of Peña Bermeja produces conventional coffee. E-Cafe has an excellent partnership with producers in Peña Bermeja, especially because Benancio, who is the head of the town’s coffee producers, is also a parent of an Ichthus student. As a parter in coffee business, E-Cafe has been educating the producers about what the demand is like in the global coffee market, as well as teaching different harvest methods from other coffee producing countries so that they can come up with a perfect way that fits the context of a Mexican coffee setting.

Now we would like to introduce you to one of our producer Benancio. Benancio is really passionate about and proud of his coffee quality. He reseraches a lot on his own so that he can improve the quality. He even makes a trip down to Guatemala to learn more about how Guatemalan coffee farms produce coffee. Also, he has been taking many classes held by ANACAFE, the Guatemalan National Coffee Association, about producing better quality coffee and fighting Roya. Because other producers in the town have seen the drastic difference in the coffee quality, they are eager to learn from Benancio.
