Donation for Micro-lot Producers

Part of our work with micro-lot scale producers is connecting them with importers who appreciate the value of their coffee and support the work they do. We are committed to help exporting their beans and finding long-term relationship partners We promote their coffees and encourage you to listen to their stories. Accordingly, it has been a couple of years since we have been working with Sharing Happiness, a company in South Korea that ethically sources coffee from various origins. Among those origins, they have Finca Las Chicharras, and the groups of micro-lot farmers working with E-café Chiapas.

Their interest in supporting small farmers has gone beyond just purchasing their coffee, they have been even sent donations.

If you have been following our stories, you might remember that Alfredo Alvarado, 14-years-old son of one of the farmers from El Mezcal, receive a donation after he was diagnosed with Systematic Lupus Erythematosus.

Unfortunate events come to be, financially, very challenging for small-scale farmers. Therefore, even small donations are quite significant for them.

After their donation last year, Sharing Happiness visited E-café Chiapas and we met each family from El Mezcal, one by one, taking the time to chat with them about their coffee and their daily life struggles. And, during the visit, our Korean friends gave a donation for E Mezcal farmers.

The group gather to discuss how to distribute the donation among themselves and finally, they decided to use it for health-related issues. They decided that Alfredo would receive a larger percentage than the others, and the rest of the donation was divided equality among each family to either pay for a medical examination or purchase any drug that a member of their family is prescribed.

Next month we will be shipping El Mezcal coffee to south Korea!
