We have been picking red and yellow ripe coffee cherries at Las Chicharras.

After our pickers fill a bag of cherries, they come to the pulping station

As you can see above, they pour the cherries into the wooden bucket. The pay depends on the size of the bucket they fill up.

Here is the picture of the full bucket.

After we measure the quantity of coffee, we put them into the water.

Unripe, light, leaves, or dirt all float on the water and ripe cherries fall to the bottom of the tank.

By water pressure, ripe cherries on the bottom of the tank are pushed into a pipe leading to a pulping machine.
