Travels to Guatemala

In the pursuit of great coffee, we took a road trip from Comitan to Huehuetenango, Atitlan, and Antigua. Our travels lead us to meet with several heavy hitters in the Guatemalan market including two very gracious hosts: Senor Rodolpho and Senora Colomba.

Nearly all coffee produced in Mexico comes from small-scale producers, the very farmers we work with. Since agriculture and commodities generally have a large economy of scale it’s extremely difficult to be efficient with a fraction of the land that most estates and fincas have. Most of our farmers have less than 2 hectares of farmland compared to the several hundreds to thousands of hectares fincas and estates hold. But with the advent of micro-lots and our help there’s no more excuse for producing poor quality coffee.

To help our progress we went to our neighbors in Guatemala to conduct our own research to see how they’ve developed their own coffee. We’ve taken lots of notes, a ton of videos, and a surplus of pictures to share with our farmers. Hope you enjoy the pictures!
