Fish and Hongos

We’ve been visiting several of our farms scattered throughout Chiapas over the past few months. We’ve gotten a firsthand look at what’s happening here in Mexico, and several of our farmers are concerned with the current market prices. Coupled with the roya fungal outbreak and already high living costs compared to the rest of coffee growing countries, the situation here is bleak. To make matters worse, over 95% of coffee produced in Mexico comes from small-scale farmers that don’t have deep pockets nor the capital to weather the storm.

One of the things we’ve started this year is diversifying the diet and agribusinesses of our farmers. So far we’ve supported funding for three mushrooms farms and have shared over several thousands of fries (baby fish). For us, development work is always about sharing hope and knowledge. Take a look at the pictures below!
