School Building Construction Progress Report at Las Chicharras

Our dilemma was that the kids were doing nothing at Las Chicharras.

They couldn’t work because they were just little kids.

They didn’t go to school because it wasn’t important for them.

At first, we tried to only accept people with no kids so that families with kids make sure their children go to school. But no one wanted to come to Las Chicharras.

So that was our dilemma.

But then Benecke Coffee stepped in. They donated some money for a school. When Benecke Coffee took the initiative for education, our dilemma was no more a complicated issue.

We were actually building roads for Las Chicharras and other projects. After those projects, we allocated our resources to the school. Those other projects took a while to finish but it did end. And we started building the school 2 weeks ago.

Around that time when we were just about to start with the school, a Korean university also donated some fund for the school project which was even better!

Contruction started 2 weeks ago and the progress is very fast. These pictures are from 2 weeks ago.

But a week ago, we had this..

The last picture was on the 21st. Which means that it will be soon finished!

Our plan is to finish some time soon. And some volunteers will come and paint the building in late January. We will post more pictures once it is done!

Half of the building will be used for a classroom and the other will be used for a pickers’ kitchen. We have a cafeteria for everyone but if they want to cook more for themselves, they will be able to use this facility.

Some volunteers will come and paint the building in late January as a finale of the construction. We will post more pictures once it is done!
